Paul Kennedy managed D Influence productions ( not the band ) for around 6 years. First meeting them while managing Doreen of Soul 11 Soul fame.
Paul first approached D Influence productions to produce a song he had for Doreen and would go on to start managing the producers and oversee all aspects of the producer’s career while they went on to produce and remix for an array of recording artist’s worldwide including Tom Brown, Shola Ama, 3LW, TLC, Adeva, Mark Morrison, Dru Hill, Jay Z, The Lighthouse Family and so many more.
Moving into the Whitechapel East London studio complex Jamestown, Paul set up an office for 1 2 One that was soon to become a joint office for 1 2 One and Freatstreet Records that Paul had also become the Managing Director of the label that was then partnered with D Influence members Kwame Kwaten.
Paul went on to say in an interview “It was a great time working with D Influence Productions, we built a solid independent label that really made a huge impact on the British black music scene signing acts like Shola Ama, Shaun Escoffery, Elizabeth Troy, Shortie Blitz & Ty and Yana Johnson to name a few. We gained multiple awards for our acts including for Shola Ama who I also managed to global stardom. Unfortunately following a split with D Influence Productions who wanted to take their career in hand, Kwame also took over management for Shola, who was dropped by Warner Music the same year that I found totally unbelievable considering the huge success we had with 4 top ten singles and a multi-million-selling debut album on my watch. Freakstreet also closed the following year. So I must have done something right”.
